Donna and I just got home from a long hot day at the Spa. The Englewood Auto Spa, that is. Enticed by the offer of a free meal and soda and a chance at a discounted professional coating application, a crowd of at least 10 enthusiastic RX-8 owners showed up to witness the application of the Crystal Guard coating on two cars. Englewood Auto Spa owner, Brett Simon, opened his shop up to the group. The front of the shop from the street may seem modest at first glance but it belies the large clean interior with room for about 6 cars at a time. After chowing down on the pizza, ziti, salad and soda, raffle drawings were held for Crystal Guard Quick spray. As the only owner of a Velocity Red RX-8 who attended, I was the luckiest guy on the block when they selected mine for a demo car. Bill Jones alias BlackDragon was the other lucky one - bringing a well-waxed Brilliant Black RX-8 into the shop. Jim, the President of Crystal Guard, flew in from California just to put a coat of their fine product on my "8" . I was in seventh heaven as you can well imagine. Brett applied the coating to the black "8". Then, just when I would have thought it couldn't get any better than this, Brett asked if he could demo a clear plastic coating called Armorglove (even better than the 3-M product equivalent) on my car. I now have an invisible shield on the front edge of my hood to ward off stone chips, bugs and what-not. Everyone stocked up on Crystal Guard supplies. Brett offered free advice on car finishing to all club members. He also touched up part of Alan Wolke's key scratch to show what could be done to remediate that damage without repainting all three panels. The owner of a convertible Beemer stopped by at the insistence of his 2 kids who were eager to possess an RX-8. We were more than pleased to offer some insider experience and tips but were unable to answer his request for the bad features of the car. One of the younger RX-8 lads opined that "more horsepower" would be welcomed. I think we succeeded in dissuaded the Beemer from referring to the "freestyle doors" as "suicide doors" ever again. All in all, by day's end, a good time was had by all. I would definitely recommend Englewood Auto Spa for all our high end vehicle care.
